About Upper Quartile

Established in 2007 by its two founding partners, Gavin Jones and James Mason, Upper Quartile's origins are in business benchmarking and strategy, advising companies on innovation, productivity and competitiveness. While this remains a core part of the business, since 2007 the company has expanded into two further areas of work: international economic development and reform, and post-conflict economic reconstruction.

This expansion has been enabled by the arrival of four new partners and the creation of a large network of associates; all partners and associates being experienced, mature professionals with backgrounds at senior level in the private and public sectors and extensive international exposure throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Upper Quartile's main premises are in Edinburgh, with additional workspaces in London, Dubai, Baghdad and Basra.

Upper Quartile's philosophy is to provide clients exclusively with partner-level support and project leadership. Junior or inexperienced consultants are not employed and only a wholly customised service is offered. Standardised approaches and models do not apply, with each project designed specifically to meet individual needs. Finally Upper Quartile aims to offer excellent value for money; overheads are kept to a minimum and there are no expensive offices to service.

Upper Quartile offers creative solutions to challenging problems, bringing an ordered and cohesive approach to environments that are often complex and data-light; even on occasion downright hostile.
