Iraq Private Sector Development - World Bank/DFID

Middle East, 2009

With the Iraq Government succeeding against insurrection and internal conflict and a reduction in violence in 2008/09 the World Bank was supported in establishing its PSD programme in Iraq.  The PSD programme will involve PPP/PFI, business environment reforms, privatisation/outsourcing programmes and business survey work among other things.

The start up project involved work with the Prime Minister Advisory Office, DFID, the UN and other agencies, enabling the World Bank to specify details in its programme, fund and initiate it, taking it to a point that long term staff could commence with the context of an existing portfolio of activities and networks.
