Evaluation of European Structural Funds in the energy sector.

Economic Development and Reform
11 January 2010

Currently working in Bucharest, Romania, Upper Quartile is completing an evaluation of European Structural Funds in the energy sector. Romania is currently receiving co-finance from the EU for its Sectoral Operational Programme - Increase of Economic Competitiveness (SOP-IEC) to:

         Improve energy efficiency in industry

Upgrade national grids in gas, electricity and oil

Reduce nitrogen oxide and sulphur emissions

Invest in renewable ‘green’ energy including solar and wind

Improve security of national energy supply to Europe

We are now completing an Interim Review, assessing progress to date and identifying pointers for future directions.  As with many EU-funded programmes around the continent, the impact of the global economic crisis on Romania's development plans will also be evaluated.

Our partners in this work are GEA Consulting of Bucharest and Fitzpatrick Associates, Dublin
